About Boracay
Boracay Island
Off the northern tip of Panay Island is world-famous Boracay Island Shaped like a slender butterfly draw in power-fine white sand, Boracay has become a fabled paradise for both budget and posh resort travelers. For two consecutive years in the 1990’s, the small island of Boracay was declared by a prestigious British travel magazine to have "the best white beach in the world," the first of many international awards.
Boracay was first "discovered" back in the 1960s, when beachcombers went looking for its rare puka shells. By the 1970s, Boracay Island was on the hit list with every other magical spot with a pristine environment and an increasing cachet amongst backpack travelers, the word had spread. By the 1990s, the adventures had become the hoards, and boutique hotels touting minimilistic Zen accommodations sprang up all along Boracay White Beach. It was still a journey to reach, Boracay as it remains today, but that was part of the draw. Today, the easiest way to Boracay Philippines is to fly from Manila to Caticlan airport on Panay Island via turbo-prop flights, or one can take the more regular jet flight to Kalibo, and ride commercial air-conditioned bus (one and a half hours) to the Caticlan jettyport for the crossing onto Boracay Island.
