Agusan del Norte is a second class province in the Philippines, being the smallest in the Caraga Region (northeastern portion of Mindanao; consisting of the provinces of four others: Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands). The landscape is mostly mountainous, especially along its western and northeastern parts. The rest of the land is flat, with rolling lands specifically where the popular Agusan River is cutting through before it empties into the Butuan Bay.

Current population is about 314,000, the Philippines’ 64th largest. The economy for Agusan del Norte is basically agricultural, with rice as its major produce. Geographically, the province is bounded to the north by Surigao del Norte and Butuan Bay; to the east by Surigao del Sur; in the west by Misamis Oriental; and by Agusan del Sur in the south. Total land area is at 2,500 square kilometers. There are 11 municipalities in the province of Agusan del Norte. The popular city of Butuan is geographically situated within Agusan del Norte’s land area, but it is independently governed. The capital city of the province is Cabadbaran.
Agusan del Norte has numerous breathtaking beaches, especially in the towns of Nasipit, Carmen, Buenavista, and Cabadbaran City. In the province could also be found the beautiful mountain of Mt. Hilong Hilong, the tallest in Agusan del Norte. There are several popular tourism sites in the province.
Cabadbaran City has natural attractions like beaches on top of its main pride, Sumag-a Falls and Pool. As mentioned, Mt. Hilong Hilong is a delight for mountain hikers because of its physical height along with adornments of various flora and fauna. Another municipality, Buenavista, is among Agusan del Norte’s coastal towns that are known for sandy beaches. Carmen Ecological Tourism Center is in the town of Carmen. Its popular beaches include white-sand Bolihon Beach, which is enticing for it sea-green waters, natural rock formations, and cliffs. Kitcharao and Jabonga are municipalities where boating and fishing are best enjoyed. Magallanes has several places of interests, with historical values, like the Municipal Museum. Baoto Festival is held every second Friday of September in Jabonga. It is a tribute to the ‘baoto’ or native dug-out canoe.
Lisagan Festival every third Saturday of October showcases Manobo rituals and dances in a religious celebration.
Sumayajaw Festival every August 15 is a thanksgiving offered to the Blessed Virgin Mary, while
Tawo-tawu Festival every September 8 is a thanksgiving party for a bountiful harvest.
Araw ng Agusan del Norte Festival is held every June 13 to 17.
